Announcement: Skin&Spirit will be re-opening its doors to the public from Tuesday 14th July at 1.00 pm!!!
Please read the following statement regarding re-opening, it is important as it relates to the treatments that will be available and why.
As you may know, there has been much debate regarding when we can reopen and what treatments we are able to provide when we do, based on the latest government guidelines. To provide our clients and the community with assurance and complete transparency, below is a policy statement regarding our decision making on which services will be available to you from 14th July. It is purposely detailed because the subject is rather complex.
Private healthcare establishments providing routine (non-emergency/non-urgent) healthcare and associated clinical services under strict cross-contamination and risk assessment protocols were permitted to re-open without restriction of services from 4th July. We could have, at that point, re-opened our clinic room with a reduced menu of services provided by our Registered Nurse. However, Skin&Spirit made the decision not to re-open until the entire team could come back to work; this being our personal ethic. We are a team first and foremost.
Yesterday (9th July), the government announced that beauty salons and nail bars (and other close contact services) could re-open from 13th July. However, there are some strict rules around which services they are permitted to provide. Specifically, the guidance restricts beauty treatments that are provided in the “Highest Risk Zone”. This is defined as “the area in front of the face where splashes and droplets from the nose and mouth may be present, which can pose a hazard.”
However, very importantly, the guidance also specifically excludes “advanced beauty therapy and aesthetic treatments provided in medical settings”. This is because these types of establishments were already allowed to reopen and provide a full menu of clinical based services (with the appropriate insurance, risk assessments and PPE) from 4th July.
So, what kind of establishment is Skin&Spirit? Well, first and foremost, we are and have always been - since the outset and by design - a nurse led clinic, providing advanced skincare services for clinical (eg. acne, hyperpigmentation, mole flattening) and non-clinical indications, medical aesthetics (rejuvenation and anti-ageing), and other healthcare services (such as CBT based counselling and clinically supported weight loss).
We have a Clinical Director who is a Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Registered Nurse Prescriber, JCCP registered, trained by Harley Academy for medical aesthetics at Level 7 (ongoing) and who provides oversight and assumes clinical accountability of the entire clinic and all services.
All clinical treatments are carried out according to the medical model, strict clinical protocols and in our purposely designed medical grade Clinic Room.
We are an approved Save Face clinic (independent regulator for private medical aesthetics in the UK) and are fully insured for MEDICAL MALPRACTICE by Cosmetic Insure. We are nearest in type to the service provided by the national Sk:n clinic brand, who have been open for some time now.
Therefore, we are a most definitely a medical setting – to the letter. The fact that we also provide core beauty and nail services in separate parts of the building does not change that. What this means is that as long as we follow the rules and guidance put forward by the government, our regulators (Nursing and Midwifery Council, Save Face and the British Association of Cosmetic Nurses) our insurance provider (Cosmetic Insure) and the local council, you can be assured that if we are offering you a treatment, it is legally permitted, it is insured and it will be carried out according to the strictest safety protocols.
Below is the full list of services we can provide from 14th July:
As per usual practice, for all clinical treatments, a consultation with our Registered Nurse will be required to pre-assess and determine the intended benefit/outcome to the patient’s physical and/or psychological health.
For clarity, clinical indications include (but are not restricted to):
There are some of the services we cannot provide until 1st August 2020. These include (but may not be restricted to):
These services will all be available from 1st August 2020, as per government guidelines regarding close contact non-medical services.
All Skin&Spirit services provided will be carried out according to the latest government, regulator, clinical and insurance guidance, so things might be a little bit different to normal.
All clinical services provided in the “Highest Risk Zone” will only be carried out in our Clinic Room so that we can effectively control and sanitise. (Dermalux is an exception to this because we don’t actually need to touch your face).
